Meeting of the Energy Charter Industry Advisory Panel 2017 Held in Beijing

On September 28th, the Meeting of the Energy Charter Industry Advisory Panel 2017 was Held in Beijing. The meeting was co-hosted by the Energy Charter Secretariat (ECS) and the Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute of China (EPPEI), with the theme of Promoting Energy Integration and Infrastructure Interconnection in Asia. Mr. Xie Qiuye, President of EPPEI and Regional Chair for Asia of the Energy Charter Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) , chaired the meeting and delivered a speech.

 

 

As the representative of the meeting co-organizer EPPEI, Mr. Xie Qiuye expressed the warm welcome to all the delegates. He introduced the development of EPPEI in recent years, especially in the field of international energy cooperation, and pointed out that the development achievement of China's energy industry has attracted worldwide attention in the past, and China would like to take technical advantages and share our experiences with countries around the world in the future, to promote regional energy integration and infrastructure interconnection in Asia.

 

 

Ms. Wei Xiaowei, the Division Director of the National Energy Administration (NEA), extended warm congratulations to the meeting and deliverd a keynote speech. She said that Asian energy industry were confronted with weak infrastructure, low-level energy resources allocation and other issues, and suggested to strengthen cooperation in trade facilitation of energy resources and infrastructure interconnection etc.

 

 

On behalf of ECS, Ms. Masami Nakata, the Assistant Secretary General of ECS, expressed her welcome to all the participants and thanked to EPPEI for the efforts they made in the meeting organization. She introduced that the Energy Charter Treaty, the only international multilateral treaty instrument in the world. was able to provide legal protection framework for energy trade, transportation and investment, and could become an important instrument for China's One Belt One Road initiative. The Beijing IAP meeting would build a bridge between the Energy Charter IAP and Chinese energy enterprises for further cooperation in the future.

 

Through hosting the meeting, EPPEI enhanced contact with domestic and foreign energy enterprises, international organization etc., widened the access to international energy information, and improved international reputation and influence of EPPEI, which laid a good foundation for carrying out international cooperation in the future.

 

 

The meeting gathered hundreds of delegates from energy enterprises & institutions such as SGCC, CSG, CDT, CEC, EDF etc. and Embassies of Russia, Canada, Germany, Japan etc. More than ten domestic and foreign speakers delivered keynote speeches on the themes of China's Energy and Investment Climate in the Context of Global Energy Governance, Energy Transition towards Low-carbon Energy, Financing Energy Interconnection and Managing Investment Risks. The delegates made sufficient communication on relevant issues.
